GEE GEES ROWING

The University of Ottawa Rowing Club is the U of O's competitive rowing squad.  We're a student-run group that is organized as a Competitive Sports Club under the sanction of the University's Sports Services.  We work in partnership with the Ottawa Rowing Club, one of the country's top competitive clubs and located right near us on the beautiful Ottawa River.

CLUB GOALS

The club enjoyed a very successful 2005 season (for full report click here), and we are looking to build on that next year, and into the future. Specifically, our goals include:

  • to hone the competitiveness of our varsity class boats.
  • to run full junior-varsity and novice programs.
  • to organize other programs that will introduce U of O students to rowing.
  • to organize an effective management structure that will let the club really thrive.
  • to raise funds through both special events and sponsorship programs.
  • to purchase our own equipment such as oars, cox-boxes and (eventually) boats.
  • to establish a legitimate rowing program at  the U of O, where serious athletes can come to train, compete and win.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WOMEN'S VARSITY FOUR!!

Some highlights of their 2005 season:

  • First at the Head of the Rideau Regatta (Ottawa, ON)
  • Second at the Head of the Trent Regatta (Peterborough, ON)
  • First at the McGill Invitational (Montreal, QC)
  • Second at the Head of the Charles (Boston, MA)
  • Third at the Ontario University Championships (Welland, ON)

And congrats to Audra Vair for her very close second-place finish at the 2006 Canadian Indoor Rowing Championships! We should also give a shout-out to Tyler Brown and Steve Lewis for absolutely crushing their personal best times! For results and more info on this event, click here.
